Mia Shapiro is a Community School Director working with Brooklyn Community Arts and Media High School (BCAM) in New York City. As a Community School Director, Mia is responsible for the day-to-day management of the community school strategy in collaboration with school leadership and community partners. Prior to joining CSS, Mia taught ELA and Special Education to sixth and seventh graders at a community school in Brooklyn. During her teaching career, Mia has specialized in spearheading the implementation of social and emotional supports for students. She has also provided coaching, consultation, and modeling for her colleagues regarding the implementation of safe and supportive groups for students. Mia earned her bachelor’s degree in English and education, as well as her teaching credentials, at Barnard College.
