Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Lead Community Schools Director
Altagracia Montilla is the Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Lead Community Schools Director (CSD) at CSS. Altagracia co-founded CSS’s Dismantling Racism and DEI work, which she now leads in partnership with key stakeholders to align organizational policies, practices, and capacity-building programs with CSS’s commitment to anti-racism. As Lead Community Schools Director of Frederick Douglass Academy III and Longwood Preparatory Academy in New York City, Altagracia is responsible for the day-to-day management of the community school strategy in collaboration with Community School Directors, school leadership, and community partners. Prior to joining CSS, Altagracia managed education programs in the greater Chicago-land area, most recently as the Director of Education and Professional Development at Beyond Sports Foundation. The bulk of Altagracia’s professional experience is dedicated to transforming schools and organizations into inclusive, equitable, and empowering spaces. Altagracia draws from her passion for social justice and her experiences as a queer, Afro-Latina, South Bronx native, and first-generation college student. Outside of her work with CSS, Altagracia travels to education and social justice-based conferences across the country to share her experiences and expertise with others. Altagracia received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Skidmore College.
